Nuestra CDC Begins Purchase and Renovation of Foreclosed Homes in Roxbury:
Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative to purchase and renovate foreclosed properties in Roxbury in order to preserve neighborhood character and create new opportunities for affordable home rental and ownership. On November 26, Nuestra CDC became the owner of 21 Dacia Street in Roxbury, a foreclosed and now-vacant three-family home in one of Boston’s hardest-hit areas for foreclosure. Located in the Howard-Dacia neighborhood of Roxbury, the home, one of as many as twelve that Nuestra CDC will purchase in the coming year, will be fully renovated and either sold to a first-time homebuyer or returned as affordable housing to the rental market.

On Wednesday, November 26, Nuestra CDC became the official owners of the first of these properties. Several more purchases are planned for 2009. “This is a great opportunity for Nuestra to step in and save a neighborhood from blight,” noted Nuestra CDC Executive Director David Price. “By coming together as an organization and a community, we can have a lasting positive impact on the Howard-Dacia neighborhood.”  CLICK HERE for complete article.

Housing Advocate Receives Award:
A Nuestra housing advocate was presented the Edward L. Cooper award by Mayor Menino this past October. The award was given to acknowledge Mr. Bates as an outstanding senior volunteer that has shown “dedication, caring, and generosity in support of the elder community in Boston.” The city of Boston created the award to commemorate a man who advocated for the Boston elderly community and was heavily involved with local initiatives.

Mr. Bates’ work and accomplishments greatly resemble those of Edward L. Cooper. A housing advocate for over twenty years, Mr. Bates focuses on helping senior citizens and the disabled acquire homes.  CLICK HERE for complete article.

Development of Roxbury MBTA Site Takes a Step Forward
An 8.5 acre site in Roxbury that the MBTA has used as a bus depot and maintenance facility for over fifty years will become a new “smart growth”, transit oriented development community if a unique partnership of developers has its way. The non-profit Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation and its two private partners – Windale Developers and Banc of America CDC – have announced that they have signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the MBTA to acquire the site known as Bartlett Yard, located just blocks from Dudley Square.  CLICK HERE for complete article.
