“We’re thrilled to move this project down the field. Nuestra’s Real Estate Development Team, particularly our Director of Real Estate Development, Marcia Thornhill, and Project Manager, Diane Clark, are to be commended for all their hard work,” noted David Price, Nuestra’s Executive Director. “We need to ensure that the elder members of our community are housed safely and with dignity. Quincy Commons will do just that while giving local construction firms much needed work.” He further noted that focus groups of area seniors helped guide the vision for the project and advocated for it over the past five years.
The project site, located on the northeast corner of Quincy Street and Blue Hill Avenue, has stood vacant for over 37 years. It was last occupied by a church in 1971. During the 1980’s, part of the property was used as an auto sales lot with a small building demolished this past June by Nuestra. With the development of the Quincy Commons site, Nuestra will develop one of the few remaining vacant lots dating back to the early 1970’s. This project continues Nuestra’s nearly three decade history revitalizing Roxbury and North Dorchester with the leadership and support of residents.
The Quincy Commons development is funded with support from HUD; Citizens Bank; Neighborhood Community Capital; The Federal Office of Health and Human Services, Office of Community Services (OCS); Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC); Mass Development; The Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NRC); The Farnsworth Trust; and The Enterprise Foundation. Nuestra will seek additional funding from other sources as well, including the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
