In 1981, residents of the Dudley Square neighborhood in Roxbury created Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation to take control of the land, build new housing, and combine their energies to create a better future. Today, Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation is one of Boston’s oldest and most successful community development corporations. Our mission statement guides our work:
Nuestra Comunidad is devoted to building the wealth and enhancing the physical, economic, and social well-being of Roxbury and other underserved populations in greater Boston through a community-driven process that promotes self-sufficiency and neighborhood revitalization.
To accomplish this mission, we work within three main areas of focus:
- Community Organizing and Resident Services - mobilizing community members to take shared action in addressing neighborhood concerns; providing programming, advocacy, and referral services to residents of Nuestra CDC-owned housing developments and surrounding neighborhoods.
- Community Revitalization and Stabilization - acquiring and developing existing properties and vacant land to provide affordable housing and preserve the physical character of neighborhoods.
- Community Wealth Generation - providing a comprehensive spectrum of services designed to help aspiring and current homeowners and promote neighborhood stability through our Home Center.
Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation is managed by 20 employees and an 11-member volunteer Board of Directors that represents the diverse communities we serve.
